director statement
This is a film. This is not a YouTube skit or anything I’ve put out before. This experience is about identity, existentialism, acceptance, and falling in & out of love. If I were to ask you if there’s an appropriate way to love, you wouldn’t have an answer. When you’re in too deep, reality distorts when someone else is in the picture. I implied the idea of a sitcom episode to be a metaphor for a relationship, once the relationship ends, it's time for the next episode. Thank you to everyone who put themselves in the spotlight and brought this film to life with their wonderful talent, humor, and initiative into bringing in their voices. This project is dedicated to those who are lost, those who are still finding themselves, whether it’s from the question of what happens after death, or.. the question of who am I, without La Fantasma Que Amo.
Director Biography
Raised in the city of Oxnard, California, Maximus Casillas is a Mexican filmmaker with a distinct voice that speaks to the unseen. Filming since the age of nine, Maximus' work blends absurd comedy with surrealism, using imaginative worlds to explore identity, nostalgia, and the quiet truths hidden beneath everyday life. Through his independent production company, Litehead Entertainment, he creates films and web shorts where humor serves as the gateway to deeper emotional and philosophical ideas. La Fantasma Que Amo is his directorial debut.
